TRADITIONAL MIDWIFE
Hello! I'm Michelle, Traditional Midwife, Lactation Consultant + founder of MUSHABOOM YYC; serving Calgary, Airdrie, Crossfield, Carstairs, Sundre, Olds, Red Deer, Bearspaw, Chestermere + Cochrane.
My inspiration for Mushaboom was born from my own unchartered + transformative journey into motherhood. I am "mama" to a [rad] kiddo, who was born via unnecessary caesarean section [breech] in 2009. In 2019, I welcomed my daughter, after a very transformative + healing wild pregnancy and free birth. My pregnancy and birth with my daughter were fully autonomous and completely outside of the allopathic system. My own personal experiences, as well as acquired wisdom from the collective (my experience witnessing and walking with my siStars), deeply influence my values surrounding pregnancy, birth, + life in general. I feel particularly called to work with wombyn who consciously + unapologetically claim their births as the sacred rites-of-passage that they are; wombyn who desire to birth autonomously and fully in their power.
(Wombyn who choose to free birth after caesarean in particular, have a special place in my heart.)
I am passionate about serving birthing + nursing wombyn in my community--in authentic siStarhood. I have been leading conscious wombyn’s circles in the heart of Calgary [+ in virtual spaces] since 2018.
Traditional Midwifery differs greatly from mainstream Licensed Midwifery in its ideology, scope + core values. I believe that the type of birth keeping I do is exactly what wombyn are hungry for. In each birth that I have witnessed, my role has been different--because the wombyn and their journeys are always different. My intention is hold space for the mother on her vibration; offering support spiritually, emotionally and physically... it is all deeply intuitive. Sometimes I am simply witnessing, other times I’m called to walk with her more closely as she navigates the journey. Holding space really looks like protecting the mother + her sacred birth space energetically, while holding her vision for her birth (sometimes while holding her hand, + sometimes from another room) so that it may unfold without any agenda, interventions or disruptions.
Outside of my passion for birth, my interests include: art (painting + photography), dancing with my kids, studying permaculture, homeopathy, herbalism + mycology, dream + ancestral medicine, wholistic health + wellness... These interests as well as my experience as a child development facilitator, + wholistic studies in Ayurveda + Reiki modalities compliment my practice + deeply inform my work as a sovereign birth keeper.
